Key Stage 4 curriculum overview:


GCSE URDU is a linear qualification, students will sit all their exams at the end of the two-year course. Three themes will be covered in the subject content:

  • Theme 1 – Identity & Culture
  • Theme 2 – Local, National, International and Global areas of interest
  • Theme 3 – Current & Future Study & Employment


GCSE Urdu has a Foundation Tier (grades 1-5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4-9). Students will take all four question papers in the same tier.


Students will be assessed in four components:

  • Listening – 25% of GCSE
  • Speaking – 25% of GCSE
  • Reading – 25% of GCSE
  • Writing – 25% of GCSE


Knowledge check dates:


Students will be continually assessed throughout the course in all four components and all three themes. They will be given exam style questions to match potential content of real exams.


Mid-term assessment dates:


Internal Assessments:

  • PPE 1 – beginning of May (Year 10)
  • PPE 2 – Mid November
  • PPE 3 – beginning of February
