Design Technology (D&T) develops the skills and experience needed to complete a design and make project. It develops further the techniques and knowledge from Key Stage 3, so that you can use your imagination to create new products using traditional tools, machinery and materials.

Assessment: |
This course has two units; one written examination and one practical design and make assignment. Unit 1 The 2 hour written exam worth 50% of the qualification. This 100-mark exam focusses on;
Unit 2 The Design and Make task, worth 50%, with 20 A3 page folder and a 3D prototype. This work takes about 30 -35 hours to complete. It is worth 100 marks. |
Skills required to be successful: | Being creative, imaginative and seeing how problems can be solved. Awareness of 3D concepts, being able to use workshop tools and machinery including the use of power tools. This course also has the opportunities to apply knowledge from other disciplines, including mathematics, science, art and design, computing and the humanities. Being able to work independently and set own target dates. |
