What are the Gatsby Benchmarks? In 2013, Sir John Holman researched what pragmatic actions could improve career guidance and subsequently he developed the Good Career Guidance Benchmarks. “Every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future.”He established a set of eight benchmarks that schools can use as a framework for improving their careers provision.
We at Cockshut Hill are working towards meeting all eight Gatsby Benchmarks by 2020, the table below is a self-evaluation taken by Compass (Careers Benchmark Tool) – July 2018;

Our careers programme is differentiated to suit the needs of our students. It is continually evolving – adding new events, assemblies, workshops and opportunities across all year groups. (For further details by year group, see ‘Careers Delivery Programme’ published on the school’s website) In addition, to enable students to further enhance their knowledge and build on their employability skillset we have a series of ASPIRE ‘career specific’ lessons periodically throughout the academic year.
In acknowledgement of the statutory requirement, we appointed an external Independent Careers Adviser for ‘personalised’information, advice and guidance and written individual action plans – our main emphasis is for Year 10 and Year 11, however other year groups can use the ‘Lunchtime Drop In service’.
We are also committed in working in partnership with outside agencies (Further Education Colleges and Sixth Forms, Apprenticeship and Training Providers, Universities and Employers)
MEASURING SUCCESS:The Careers Leader will; undertake and assess feedback from all stakeholders on a regular basis, complete COMPASS the careers benchmark tool periodically throughout the academic year, liaise with the Careers & Enterprise Company representative and develop stronger links with our Business Enterprise Partners.
