Birmingham based artist and educator Joanna Fursman held online photography workshops with students and their teachers at Cockshut Hill in 2020. The participating children were those of key workers and those whose attendance at school was deemed essential. Students were given disposable cameras and asked to capture their experience of going to school during lockdown.
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery first opened in 1885 and is is housed in a Grade II* listed city centre landmark building. An exhibition named ‘Unprecedented Times’ is running until October which invites visitors to take a moment to pause and reflect on all that has passed in Birmingham over the last two years of living with Covid-19.
“I am so proud that photographs from Cockshut Hill students are on display in the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. I know the students enjoyed taking part in the online photography workshops and want to thank Joanna for the time she devoted to these.”
