Cockshut Hill School welcomed serving members of the Royal Navy Catering Services Branch for a presentation explaining their roles. They outlined what service life is like and provided an insight into the educational, sporting and social opportunities that a career in the Royal Navy provides.
The students then took part in a Ready Steady Cook Challenge, an interactive Master Chef style lesson in which the students were divided into equal teams and presented with a mystery box of ingredients. They then had to create two dishes, a main course and a dessert, within an hour. The session was uniquely designed to meet the criteria and skill level for Year 11 GCSE examinations.
All ingredients were provided by the Royal Navy and the representatives encouraged a ‘clean as you go’ policy throughout the challenge to enable the classroom to remain safe and tidy and to accommodate the presentation of their cooked food!
“I am really grateful to the representatives from the Royal Navy for taking the time to come and speak with our students and to do the Ready, Steady, Cook Challenge with them! The session was hugely enjoyable and provoked very enthusiastic responses from students and staff.”
